The Rally for Abortion Justice and reproductive freedom was largest single-day mobilization dedicated to abortion justice in history, since abortion was first made safe under Roe v. Wade in 1973.  Speaking of history- a little Oklahoma history 1981-2006 abortion justice was safe under my mentor and HHS Chair Sen. Bernest Cain.

Abortion bills were never heard 2008- under term limits, a tied senate and a republican house things started to change; however, at least abortion bills were scheduled at the end of the deadline.

Then one day in 2012 the ruling party scheduled the personhood bill A BILL THAT NOT EVEN MISSISSIPPI WOULD HEAR, for the FIRST DAY OF SESSION.

THANKS TO A POWERFUL COALITION OF VOICES AND SPIRITS, WE WOMEN DEFEATED PERSONHOOD IN OK.

A JON STEWART DAILY SHOW SKIT TITLED BRO. CHOICE DEALT THE BILL THE FINAL BLOW WHEN IT WAS RELEASED THE NIGHT BEFORE THE BILL WENT TO THE HOUSE FLOOR.

JS filmed the skit at the end of February but didnt release it until April.  The timing was miraculous.

So the moral of the story ladies:  ALWAYS raise hell and NEVER QUIT you never know what’s possible or around the bend.

Our clear and simple message today: we demand abortion justice now!

Our clear and present opportunity is to make sure Oklahoma women know and use their power to vote for women who will promote preserve and defend our best interests including equal pay for equal work, bodily autonomy and reproductive justice freedom.

CANDIDATE FOR THE PEOPLE

MEET CONNIE JOHNSON

Connie Johnson is a native Oklahoman and lifelong Democrat running to be Oklahoma’s 29th Governor, and the first Black Indigenous woman governor in the United States.

Senator Johnson introduced Oklahoma’s first ever medical cannabis bill in 2007, during Oklahoma’s Centennial Year. Although introduced amidst much legislative and public condemnation, she reintroduced the bill every session during her tenure. The people of Oklahoma, through her leadership, overwhelmingly approved medical cannabis legalization in 2018, an action that has led Oklahoma to the point of being recession proof as the cannabis industry epicenter.
